The dough is rolled out into a rectangular shape, then covered with a mixture of cinnamon, sugar, and butter. The dough is then rolled up into a log shape and sliced into individual rolls, which are baked until golden brown.
Cinnamon rolls are a popular breakfast or brunch item, and they can also be enjoyed as a dessert or snack. They are often served warm, and the frosting can be spread over the top while the rolls are still hot, allowing it to melt and seep into the crevices of the rolls.
Cinnamon rolls can be made in a variety of different ways, with some recipes incorporating nuts, raisins, or other spices into the filling. There are also many variations on the frosting, with some recipes using a glaze or a buttercream frosting instead of cream cheese.
Ingredients

Directions
- In a large bowl, mix together 3 cups of flour, sugar, melted butter, warm milk, yeast, salt, and eggs until well combined.
- Add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour to the mixture and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- The dough should rise for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size, in a warm location with the bowl covered with a clean towel.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon should all be thoroughly blended in a small bowl.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- After the dough has risen, roll it out into a broad rectangle that is about 1/4 inch thick on a lightly dusted surface.
- Spread the filling mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Start rolling the dough tightly from the long side of the rectangle. Cut the rolled dough into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Cover the pan with a clean towel and let the cinnamon rolls rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25 to 30 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- While the cinnamon rolls are baking, start preparing the icing. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- When the cinnamon rolls are finished baking, take them out of the oven and let them cool.
- Serve the warm cinnamon rolls right away after frosting them.
