They are made by mixing flour, water, and salt to create a dough that is then piped through a star-shaped nozzle to give it its characteristic ridged shape. The dough is next deep-fried till golden and crunchy.
Churros are often enjoyed as a snack or dessert and are traditionally served with a dipping sauce such as chocolate, dulce de leche, or caramel. They can also be dusted with cinnamon and sugar for added flavor.
In addition to Spain and Portugal, churros are popular in many other countries, including Mexico, where they are often served as a breakfast food. They can be found at fairs, carnivals, and street food vendors around the world.
Ingredients

Directions
- Salt, butter, and water are combined in a medium saucepan. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Immediately after adding the flour, stir the mixture briskly with a wooden spoon until it comes together into a ball and pulls away from the pan's sides. Remove from the heat.
- Beat the eggs in a separate bowl. Add them to the dough in the saucepan, one at a time, stirring vigorously after each addition until the dough is smooth and shiny.
- In a deep skillet or saucepan, heat 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F.
- Fill a piping bag fitted with a star tip with the churro dough. Pipe the dough into the hot oil, cutting off the dough with a knife or scissors. Fry the churros until golden brown, turning them occasionally with tongs, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove the churros with tongs and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate.
- The sugar and cinnamon should be combined in a small bowl. To coat, roll the churros in the sugar mixture.
- Serve the churros warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as chocolate sauce or dulce de leche.
